The sanctuary of Margana

In Margana is the sanctuary where the image of the protector of the island and its inhabitants reside, the Madonna of Margana. The painting dates to 857 and it's thought to have come to Pantelleria thanks to the monks of the monastery of Patirion to preserve it from the numerous attacks by pirates along the Calabrian coast.
