Museo Statale dÂ’Arte Medievale e Moderna

The core of the museumÂ’s collection is constituted by works by ArezzoÂ’s greatest artists: Margarito, Spinello Aretino, Luca Signorelli and Giorgio Vasari. It is flanked by a collection of coins and an interesting collection of Renaissance pottery.

Museo Archeologico Gaio Cilnio Mecenate

The archaeological museum is housed in the former Monastery of San Bernardo, built on the ruins of the Roman amphitheatre (second century BC). It boasts a huge collection, with exhibits from prehistoric times, the Etruscan period (with the vase of Euphronios and the jewellery from the Poggio del Sole tombs), and the Roman age (featuring an important collection of “coralline vases”, a particular style of pottery for which the city has been famous since antiquity).

Bacci Chapel

The chapel is housed in the Basilica of San Francesco and is decorated with Piero della FrancescaÂ’s famous masterpiece, the fresco cycle of the Legend of the True Cross.

Renaissance in Arezzo

Beato Angelico and Piero della Francesca, Bartolomeo della Gatta and Luca Signorelli. And Donatello, Neri di Bicci, Michele da Firenze, Andrea della Robbia, Jacopo Sansovino, Filippo Lippi. These are the leading artists of Renaissance in Arezzo. The exhibition takes palce in various locations: in Arezzo at the Fraternita dei Laici, the Diocesano Museum and the National Museum of medieval and modern art; in Cortona at the MAEC (Museo dell'Accademia Etrusca) and the Museo Diocesano; in Castiglion Fiorentino at the Collegiata della Pieve di San Giuliano and the Pinacoteca Comunale; in Lucignano at the Civic Museum.
