Santa Croce has its origins from a small Franciscan chapel built near the north bank of the Arno in 1228. At the end of the thirteenth century, with the aim of containing the numerous faithful, was placed the first stone of the present building. The end date of the work still remains uncertain, although the consecration of the church dates back to 1444. The interior of the basilica, simple and solemn, is spread over an Egyptian cross plan, with three imposing naves divided by two octagonal pillars file.
