Temple of Minerva

The temple can be visited in the main square of Assisi. It dates back to 30 BC and, in spite of the name, was dedicated to Hercules. In the sixteenth century it was transformed into a church, partly preserving its original forms. It is one of the best preserved Roman temples in the ancient world.

Rocca Maggiore

The Rocca Maggiore of Assisi dates back to the 12th century and it is joined to the Rocca Minore by a 14th century wall still intact. In the past it played defensive functions and then became the residence of the Castellans who controlled the territory. Valorized and restored, today is visitable.

Civic Museum and Roman Forum of Assisi

The Museum of the Roman Forum is partly housed in the crypt of San Nicolò and continues below the main square of Assisi. Here, besides many funerary stems, you can admire high reliefs, sculptures, statues and some cinerary urns.

San Rufino Cathedral

The cathedral was consecrated in 1253 and the interior was restored during the 16th century. The facade, with its large rosette and its sculptures, is one of the most significant works of the Umbrian Romanesque style. Like the Basilica of Saint Francis, it is an important pilgrimage site.

Basilica di San Francesco

The Papal Basilica of St. Francis in Assisi was built in 1228. It consists of two overlapping churches: the lower basilica (in Romanesque style) and the upper basilica (in French Gothic style). To admire the Franciscan Allegory by Giotto and the most important collection of medieval stained glass in Italy. The Basilica is registered by UNESCO among the World Heritage Sites.
